About this Project
LKB undertook Design Phases I-VI, including an EPP and preliminary design of the bridge, for the replacement of the existing 10-span, 390-foot-long structure with a pre-stressed concrete continuous beam structure. The design included highway realignment, drainage improvements, MPT, roadway and navigation lighting, and construction staging plans. Major design considerations included replacement of the existing bridge with a new bridge at the same location, aesthetics of the new structure, and staged bridge construction to allow through traffic over the existing structure during construction. The newly-constructed bridge replaced a 64-year-old deteriorated structure of surpassing historic grace and elegance. The new bridge looks much like the old, with the added benefit of modern construction techniques. This was of utmost importance to local communities, which shared a nostalgic attachment to the bridge.
