LKB plays a significant role in developing transportation systems through planning and feasibility studies, roadway design, traffic studies, drainage design, facility design, and construction administration. Our projects include expressways, parkways, arterial highways and local roadways.
Our highway design services include planning, field investigations/inspection, ADA compliance for sidewalks and curb ramps, drainage design, subsurface/surface utility identification and location, material testing, project scheduling, construction sequencing, design review, construction cost estimating and coordination with stakeholders.
The development of plans includes attention to available right-of-way, vertical and horizontal alignment, sight distance, clear zones, proper lane and width, pavement design, utilities, pavement markings, concrete curbs and aprons, drainage facilities, and work zone traffic control. LKB also provides pavement management programming and construction support services during construction. LKB always considers the incorporation of sustainable materials and processes into highway design projects such as in using recycled materials in roadway pavement and incorporating LED street lighting fixtures.
TRAFFIC ANALYSIS & DESIGN
Our services involve traffic data collection, manual turning movement counts for various modes of travel, license plate origin-destination data surveys/analysis, capacity analysis for vehicles on various types of roadways and pedestrians in urban areas, crash history analysis, speed and delay analysis, sign condition assessments, sign designs ranging from overhead highway guide signs to pedestrian crossing warning signs, traffic control device inventories, intersection traffic control design including stop/yield signs, traffic signals and roundabouts, and traffic calming measures such as curb bulb outs or road narrowing. LKB also specializes in corridor studies using traffic signal timing improvements to improve the capacity of the corridor, work zone traffic control plan development, construction staging plans which consider both horizontal obstructions and vertical changes in grade, traffic impact studies, and parking management studies.
LKB utilizes the latest design guidelines such as the MUTCD as well as the application of computer simulation programs to model existing and future traffic flow conditions on major roadway improvement projects.
