About this Project

LKB was retained by Suffolk County Department of Public Works to provide preliminary and final design, construction management and construction inspection services for this federally aided project for the rehabilitation of nearly 10 miles of County Road 50 from NYS Route 109 to NYS Route 27A.

Preliminary design included preparation of a Design Report for approval by New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Work included assessing existing pavement conditions, milling and new asphalt pavement, replacement of sidewalk in select areas, new curb, drainage upgrades, pavement markings, guiderail replacement, pedestrian signals, and push buttons. Existing pedestrian ramps were measured to identify their existing longitudinal and horizontal cross slope to determine if they needed to be replaced. The design of new ADA ramps conformed to the NYSDOT standard sheets and the final bid package conformed to NYSDOT standards.

LKB also provided construction management and construction inspection services which included detailed inspection, on-site field testing of materials and other construction activities, including field measurement and collection of data, submission of monthly and final estimates and progress reports, and preparation of record plans showing all changes from the contract plans. The construction management/inspection services included overseeing all construction operations and the placement of Work Zone Traffic Control. LKB was responsible for monitoring contract progress and maintaining all records in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Record Keeping (MURK).
