About this Project
LKB was retained by NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation to provide an inspection and evaluation, preliminary and final plans for the rehabilitation of the Jones Beach State Park Water Tower. This 190-foot high landmark building built by Robert Moses consists of a structural steel frame supporting masonry walls, which enclose a 19-foot diameter by 150-foot tall steel water tank.
LKB prepared an evaluation report and design plans for the rehabilitation of the structure to address the cracks in the masonry and the severely corroded steel members. A STAAD structural analysis of the steel frame structure was performed and construction documents were prepared for the strengthening of many of the steel columns.
LKB’s construction support services during the two-year construction phase included review and approval of detailed shop drawings, catalog cuts, and miscellaneous submittals for compliance with contract documents; review and responses to RFI’s (Request for Information) and Change Order Requests; and attendance of progress and project meetings, as necessary.
This project received the 2011 Quality of Life Award from the ASCE Metropolitan Section, Long Island Branch.
