Heckscher State Park – Restoration of Tidal Flow and Replacement of Culverts with Seven Bridges and Open Channels

About this Project

LKB has been retained by NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation (NYSOPR&HP) to provide design and construction support services for this project under a Term Agreement. LKB is currently preparing design plans for the construction of seven (7) bridges, including two (3) pedestrian and four (4) roadway bridges over channels leading into the interior of this 1,500 acre park. The 40 foot wide channels will replace the existing flow restricting culvert pipes and will increase the flow of the water from the surrounding Great South Bay to the interior ponds and wetlands. The pedestrian bridges will be designed to handle 12 foot wide walking paths as well as maintenance vehicles and the roadway bridges will be designed for normal highway traffic.

Upon acceptance of the contract documents, LKB will provide services during the bidding phase, which will include responding to inquiries from prospective bidders; review of contractors’ qualifications and references; preparation of a bid summary; and recommendation of the award to the lowest responsible and qualified bidder. LKB’s construction support services during the construction phase will include review and approval of detailed shop drawings, catalog cuts, and miscellaneous submittals for compliance with contract documents; review and responses to RFI’s (Request for Information) and Change Order Requests; and attendance of progress and project meetings, as necessary.
