This project originally involved assessing different effluent discharge alternatives to augment existing leaching lagoons for a 200,000-gpd sewage treatment plant for the Suffolk County Department of Public Works. LKB was responsible for all aspects of the project including directing sub consultants, quality assurance/quality control and preparing the report summary, conclusions and recommendations. Recommendations included the design of a 150 GPM, 125 TDH pump station and 12,000-foot forcemain for off-site disposal of effluent. Due to the age of the Sewage Treatment Plant, the County decided to mothball the plant and LKB was directed to design a 6,000-foot forcemain and pump station to convey untreated sewage to a new sewage treatment plant in SCSD18. The design for the 220 GPM 88ft TDH pump station included a duplex submersible pump system, valve pit, and as well as details for the electrical supply and instrumentation/control system. The design of the force main included trenching details, directional drilling under State Route 347 thrust blocks, drain manholes, clean outs and air relief chambers, as well as road reconstruction and utility coordination details.
