About this Project
The goal of this ongoing project is to increase safety and provide a smooth riding surface for vehicular traffic for the next 10 to 12 years by milling and resurfacing the existing pavement. The roads identified under this project are in the towns of Oyster Bay, Hempstead and Islip, which are only separated by 30 miles. However, the communities and working conditions are extremely diverse, ranging from residential to heavily congested commercial areas. The work also includes extensive Work Zone Traffic Control, including lane closures and nighttime roadway closures with detours. Close coordination with both the Region, local police, other emergency services and the residents and businesses within the work areas must be persistently maintained.
