During a routine inspection of the wood-framed Siaconset footbridge, a cracked beam and rotted column bases were identified. VERTEX was retained to review prior documents, photos, and measurements provided by the Nantucket DPW and to provide an opinion on whether the bridge should continue to be used in its current condition. VERTEX was then asked to perform a structural assessment to determine the structural condition of the bridge and provide general repair recommendations.
VERTEX provided short-term and long-term repair recommendations. The short-term recommendations would allow for the pedestrian bridge to remain open during the busy summer vacation season. It was recommended that the long-term repairs be completed prior to the following spring season.
