Improvements to Nassau Boulevard at the Merillon Avenue Railroad Station

About this Project

LKB prepared contract documents, including plans, specifications and estimates for the replacement of 325 feet of elevated sidewalk, including retaining walls, curbs, and railings on each of the east and west sides of Nassau Boulevard. The sidewalk is on a Nassau County owned roadway that runs in a north/south direction directly under the Long Island Railroad at the Merillon Avenue Train Station. This area is heavily utilized by railroad commuters daily and the existing elevated sidewalk as well as the associated supports were severely deteriorated.

LKB performed an inspection and evaluation of the elevated sidewalk and railing and prepared a comprehensive report recommending its complete replacement. The existing sidewalk and railing was replaced with a wider section to incorporate ADA guidelines. In addition to the sidewalk and railing replacement, the roadway width was reduced, existing drainage was replaced, access to the Long Island Railroad Stairs was repaired, and the asphalt pavement within the project limits has been milled and resurfaced.
